My plan to get the Hutt moving
We have a strong growing communities right across the Hutt. With that, we need a transport system that enables our people to get around so that we spend more time doing and less time waiting in traffic. I have a plan that focuses on reducing congestion on our roads so our people can get where they need to go faster.
Build the Cross Valley Link
An east to west connection is vital to get our city moving again. That’s why I will get the Cross Valley Link designed, consented and underway as soon as possible. This project is critical to making our city resilient in the face of future sea level rise or in the event of a natural disaster. It also provides us with opportunities to better utilise the Petone Foreshore.
Develop a integrated transport plan to get the Hutt moving again
We know congestion is a problem in the Hutt, and it is only going to get worse with a Council that does not have a plan to address it. That’s why I will develop and roll out, alongside our community, an integrated transport plan that will focus on public transport, future-focused roading projects, and other modes of active transport like cycling and electric scooters. My plan will build the foundation to get the Hutt moving again.
Work with Central Government to progress the Melling interchange
There is no doubt that this project needs to happen. That’s why I will work with Central Government to get this project consented and funded alongside the rest of the Riverlink project. This project is crucial in enabling Lower Hutt to progress riverbank flood protection work that will best mitigate flood risks to local homes and businesses.
